Arc-glow plasma depositing technique is a new surface coating method. With the help of vacuum arc discharge, a cold cathode arc source continually emits ion beams of coating elements with high currency density and high ionizing ratio.Upon the ion bombard and diffusion work on, the surfaces of the parts form deposited layers, diffusion layers. In this study, a commercial magnesium alloy AZ91 was coated with Ti film layer.

Of key interest was the trends of corrosion potential on initial period. Corrosion potential–time measurements were undertaken after the samples exposed to the air for 24 h were polarized anodically and cathodically in acetic acid solution. With analyzing of the curves of electrochemical polarization and SEM and EDS data of the samples ,corrosion and electrochemical behavior and mechanism of localized corrosion of 316L stainless steel in acetic acid solution with Cl- were discussed.

The results showed that oxide and hydrate of RE deposited in the cathodal area where the pH value was relatively high and inhibited the corrosion of steel by blocking the transmission of O2 and electron between the cathodal area and solution.

In the paper, some factors influencing the effect of reduction including the anodic material, the cathodal material, the area ratio of cathode to anode and the kind of electrolyte have been investigated and screened out.
