This paper reports the results of highly precise zircon SHRIMP U-Pb dating of quartz albitite in the volcanic-sedimentary series of the Tuolugou cobalt deposit, Golmud, Qinghai. Analyses of eight spots presented 206Pb/238U ages of 455 to 483Ma with a weighted mean age of 468±9Ma, which represents the timing of submarine volcanic exhalation in this area. Therefore, the age of the host rocks of the Tuolugou ore district is redefined as Ordovician, which implies that regionally the main part of the Naij Tal Group should be Early Paleozoic in age.

This paper employs clay stone analysis to Permian-Triassic boundary strata from three deep water sections, Duanshan, Nashui and Liuqiao, located in Guangxi and Guizhou region, southwestern China. The result shows that clay stones from the three localities are composed of illite-montmorillonite mixed layer, montmorillonite and kaolinglite. There are rock fragments such as bipyramid quartz and zircon which are related to volcanic process found in all the sections except in Nashui section.

Their ∑REE varied very limitedly,(87~Sr/(86)Sri ratios and eNd values are 0.7086~0.7095 and -10.20~-9.96 for volcanic rocks, and 0.7087~0.7095 and -7.6~6.92 for the central intrusive facies syenite, which means that all the igneous rocks from Mt. Yandangshan are evolutional products of magmas with the same source, and that they derived mainly from crust, but mixed with mantle components.
