In the step of esterification, dehydration of boric acid and then esterifying with phenol were carried out in order to increase conversion of esterification. Effect of reaction temperature, consumption of boric acid, kinds and consumption of dehydrolating agent on the yield of esterification was studied. The experimental results showed that high conversion of 98% of esterification was obtained.

By studying the influences that pH and SMTP act on the cross- linking reactions of potato starch and sweet potato starch, the cross-linking reaction mechanisms of PSPE and SPSPE were proposed and the chemical reactive velocity equations were determined. The relations between cross-linking reactions and temperatures were studied, meanwhile the activation energy of chemical reactions and apparent frequency efficient of cross-linking reactions were calculated. Technical conditions of preparing PEPS and SPEPS were determined.

A novel method combining a conventional free-radical solution polymerization with a chemical saponification was used to synthesize a, cu-dicarboxyl terminated oligo s with molecular weight below 1500. Here, cn-carboxyl terminated oligo s were firstly synthesized by the free-radical polymerization in THF, where 4,4'-azobis(4-cyanovaleric acid) was used as initiator, thioglycolic acid as chain transfer agent, then CTBMA were transformed into di-CTBMA via saponifying CTBMA in dioxane/H_2O/KOH solution.
