This research uses ethanol as a reducing agent in the reduction of platinum particles from hexachlorplatinic acid on carbon black surfaces. The carbon blacks were treated by hydrogen peroxide at 90oC to form oxygen functional groups on the surface in order to assist dispersion of platinum nanoparticles in liquid solutions.

Another approach was to use the air classifier mill to break up the sintered iron cakes into powders. The morphology of such particles was classified into 4 types in this study: irregular, equalaxed, near spherical, and flaky. The morphological differences were affected by the extent of sintering. The higher the extent of sintering, the stronger the inter-particle bonding.
