The experiments were made on a small swirl chamber diesel engine. Orthogonal planning method was used for the optimal application of tar oil base fuel. The working performances of the engine were detected in fullload speed characteristics test, starting test, emission and 50 hours endurance test. The results showed that it can replace diesel fuel for agricultural engines.
