In 1997 the hugest tungsten miner in the world - Tyrnausky GOK finally stopped its operation. It produced up to 40 thousand tons of W-concentrate per year during the times of Soviet Union and was a main source of raw material for "Hydrometallurg" conversion plant in Nalchik which became almost bankrupt after the closure of Tyrnausky GOK.
