First, some researchers still put emphasis on grammatical descriptions of the evidential systems in some highly-inflectional languages. Second, the researches seem to be confined to the lexis and clausal level, and the study of evidentiality at discourse and genre level is much less than enough. In addition, the review of the research on English RAs has shown that few systematic researches on evidentiality in academic discourse have been conducted. Third, there are few researches on what evidentiality can do for language users and especially on the interpersonal functions of evidentiality.

The practical and theoretical significance of this study is concluded as the following three aspects: 1 the application of SFG's metafunction theory grasps the language patternings that encode the writer's perspective in fiction; 2 the adoption of SFG's conception of meaning potential and context facilitates the insight into the stylistic value of those foregrounded language patternings; 3 the focus of this approach on both the formal and semantic dimensions of perspective strengthens the grasp of perspective's essence and enhances the study of perspective in fiction.

The academic significance and the applied value of research into Yi structural auxiliary words include the following: 1. The structural auxiliary words play an important role in Yi grammar. Many problems in Yi syntax could be solved if the special features of Yi structural auxiliary words were understood. 2. The study of Yi structural auxiliary words may provide a foundation for a theoretical framework of function words and clarify the rules for the development of Tibeto-Burman languages. 3. The study of Yi structural auxiliary words may help in the study of Chinese grammatical history. It can supply some useful clues in the study of Chinese structural auxiliary words and the historical evolution of Chinese grammar.
