This paper takes the classifier "Chuan" as a case study to explore the issue of classifier teaching from the angles of Chinese characters, language , cognition and culture, and proposes that TCFL teachers should follow human's cognitive mechanism advancing from easy to difficult and from concrete to abstract to carry out a phased teaching of Chinese classifiers stressing varyingly on their grammar, semantic and pragmatic features by adopting comprehensive teaching methods.
