之所以说舒勇的油画有新意是因为，以往表现诸如"八仙过海"、"五谷丰登"、"喜结良缘"、"望子成龙"等等题材时，都是直接用某种艺术形式，比如彩墨、木版、扑灰年画等绘画形式，或者陶瓷、木头、竹子等雕塑形式。到了舒勇这里，他并没有直接用油画自身所擅长的语言技巧去表现这些传统神话和祈福故事，而是将这些神话和故事的人物形象转换成民间彩色刻瓷的形式，被安置在一种类似瑶池一般虚幻神秘的水面上。
