In situ hybridization and immunocytochemical studies indicated that treatment with 17beta -estradiol increased the number of aromatase-immunoreactive cells and their immunoreactivities, especially in the preoptic area of the hypothalamus, where the density of the aromatase-immunoreactive cells was 2.6 folds higher than the control group.
