Methods Gluteus mediu-pedicle bone was designed according to the anatomy and was grafted over to the femoral neck fracture site in 8 patients.

According to a completely randomized block design, 54 pigs (Larger White×Landrace) with an average weight of 53kg were assigned to three treatments. The diets contained the same amino acid pattern (TDLys : TDMet : TDThr : TDTrp=100 : 34.6 : 71.7 : 19.2) and digestibile energy levelDE 3200 kcalkg^(-1 with different crude protein levels (CP 10%, 18% and 26%, respectively). The trial lasted for 67 days before slaughter, and longissimus dorsi, psoas major, semaitendinosus, semimembranosus, arm triceps, glutaeus medius, the area, diameter and density of the muscle fibers were measured.

Clinical Relevance: The risk of injury to both the superior gluteal nerve and the gluteus medius muscle is higher with limited degrees of hip flexion and adduction, such as are possible in the supine position on a fracture table, than it is with greater degrees of hip flexion and adduction, which are possible in the lateral position on a fracture table or in the so-called sloppy lateral position on an ordinary table.

The width of the posterior cutaneous nerve of thigh on the inferior margin of gluteus maximus was (4.4±0.8)mm,(3.4±0.7)mm between 1／3 superior and middle trunk,and(2.2±0.8)mm between 1／3 inferior and middle trunk,respectively.

The identical volume of sponge was implanted into gluteus maximus of experimental group. In the sham operation group, only L3 transverse foramen was exposed. The normal group was not given any treatment.
