In recent years, NAFLD animal models have been successfully established in many species such as rat, sand rat, mice, rabbit, and piglets induced by diet, total parenteral nutrition, and methionine choline-deficient. These models provide new opportunities to study the pathogenesis and treatment of metabolic syndrome associated with NAFLD/NASH.
