To address this question, the researchers used data from the Chicago Health and Aging Project, a longitudinal study conducted from 1993 to 2003 in a biracial community on the south side of Chicago, with an average of 6.4 years of follow-up. The cohort included 3885 community-dwelling adults aged 65 years and older who participated in at least 2 assessments.
