The Wien effects of three variable charge soils (red soil, lateritic red soil and latosol) saturated with various chlorides in electric field were different. The relative electrical conductivities of red soil saturated with various chlorides increased apparently with the increase in field strength, whereas that of latosol were almost equal to 1 in the test field strength (15 kV cm-1 to 250 kV cm-1), the increase of △EC in lateritic red soil were between that of red soil and latosol.

So the higher temˉ perature resistance for the three soil types was in the sequence o f dry red soil, lateritic red soil and lateritic soil.

Result shows that the weathering rates were very low (usually lower than 1.0 keq × ha-1× a-1) for allite (including red earth, lateritic red earth, red earth, yellow earth, and yellow-brown earth) in south China and silalsol (consisting of dark brown forest soil, black soil, and podzolic soil) in northeast China, but very high for xerosol and alpine soil in northwest China.

The study on the inherent relations of microbial biomass in red soil with soil nutrient cycling and ryegrass growth shows that the microbial biomass was not only significantly correlated with soil organic C, total N and available N, but also highly correlated with dry matter yield and N uptake of plants,indicating that soil microbial biomass could be used as an important indicator for soil fertility and plant production.

Ammonia volatilization in relation to N application rate and climate factors was studies through field experiment in red soil under the crop rotation of Smooth Crabgrass in spring and Winter Radish in autumn Results indicate that ammonia volatilization in Treatments N90, N160 and N230 in spring dragged on for 10~17 days, and peaked at the 6th~8th day after urea application, reaching N0.11, 0.57 and 1.84kg hm^(-2)d^(-1), respectively, and the total amount of N loss through ammonia volatilization was N0.67~5.16kg hm^(-2) accounting for 0.74%~2.24% of the total N applied.

通过红壤旱地种植牧草马唐和蔬菜冬萝卜轮作试验，研究了在春秋二季红壤旱地氨挥发对不同施氮量和气象因子的响应。结果表明，红壤旱地春季牧草实验，氮肥处理N90、M60和N230，氨挥发持续10~17d，在施肥后6~8d达到峰值，峰值分别为N0.11、0.57和l.84kg hm^(-2)d^(-1)。

The results showed that tillage had stronger compaction effect on Red soil. By analyzing retention properties, water content was higher in the same suction for Red soil. Field capacity and wilting coefficient were higher for Red soil than those for Lou soil, but effective moisture and saturated hydraulic conductivity were lower for Red soil. For Red soil, Lateral infiltration ability was stronger, infiltration rate was greater than one number degree for Lou soil and preferential flow occurred easily.

结果表明：耕作片红壤有较强的压实作用；从持水特征分析，同一吸力下红壤的含水量较高，田间持水量和凋萎系数也高于塿土，而有效水含量略低于塿土，饱和导水率却低于塿土1个数量级；从入渗特征分析，红壤的侧渗能力很强，入渗率比塿土高1个数量级，容易发生大孔隙流。
