Compared with the other areas of China, at this time,"Isolated Island" trade was prospering: the foreign trade advanced rapidly, and Shanghai become the trade center of China again; owing to its specific political setting, the powerful economic base and the superior geography environment, the interlocal trade of Shanghai was always second to none; as a result of the proliferating population and furbishing production, the local trade also made some progress.

第一部分，界定官场小说的内涵，并对它的历史发展，对其在当下繁荣的原因做初步的探析；第二部分，从官场小说对官场腐败、官员内心世界和社会文化心理等方面的揭示考察其主题构成；第三部分，从人物形象、叙事方式(叙事视角、叙事结构、反讽叙事、叙事话语)等分析官场小说的艺术表现特征，指出官场小说不仅塑造了性格鲜明的正面人物，也真实刻画了具有复杂人性的反面角色，更重要的是展现了官场灰色人物的庸俗生存，并通过两类不同类型小说的对比，揭示其各自不同的叙事特征；第四部分，充分肯定官场小说的现实主义价值，及其对前期官场小说的超越，并从小说艺术角度指出其存在的严重不足：小说对现实的屈从束缚了作品的艺术想象力，使小说缺乏深厚的思想内蕴；人物形象也显得单薄，无法产生感人的艺术魅力；叙事的模式化也大大降低了作品的艺术品位。

Civilization in this dichotomy means the universal, autonomous, prosperous, individual, rationally speculative, self-doubting, and ironic; culture means the customary, collective, passionate, spontaneous, unreflective, unironic, and a-rational.

在这两元对立中，文明意味着普遍的、自主的、繁荣的、个人的、理性预测的、自我怀疑的、反讽的；文化意味着习惯的、集体的、激情的、自发的、不加思考的、不会讽刺的、非理性的。

Coincidently, in China, there are these young artists who are present during this exhibition, who rebel the tradition, doubt and worry the reality; facing the prosperous image of the world modern art with a "marginal" attitude of real artists, and keep distance with gaudy social climber; with missional responsibility and criticalness, they enter into personal experience and thinking.

巧如斯，在中国有这样一些正如我们此次画展推出的年青艺术家，他们把对传统的叛逆和对现实的质疑与忧患自觉地保持一起；以真正艺术家的&边缘&的态度，面对国际当代艺术一片繁荣的景象，疏离于趋炎附势的媚俗；带着一种使命感和批判性，&远离大叙事、反符号化、反政治化，&进入个体化的体验和思考。

But as it is easy to foresee that, from different causes and from different quarters, much pains will be taken, many artifices employed to weaken in your minds the conviction of this truth; as this is the point in your political fortress against which the batteries of internal and external enemies will be most constantly and actively (though often covertly and insidiously) directed, it is of infinite moment that you should properly estimate the immense value of your national union to your collective and individual happiness; that you should cherish a cordial, habitual, and immovable attachment to it; accustoming yourselves to think and speak of it as of the palladium of your political safety and prosperity; watching for its preservation with jealous anxiety; discountenancing whatever may suggest even a suspicion that it can in any event be abandoned; and indignantly frowning upon the first dawning of every attempt to alienate any portion of our country from the rest, or to enfeeble the sacred ties which now link together the various parts.

但是不难预见，由于各种原因各个方面你们还会遭受很多的痛苦，许多的诡计会消弱你们对事实真相的信念。而问题在于，在对抗经常活跃的（虽然经常是偷偷摸摸不知不觉的）内部和外部敌人引起的战争的政治堡垒中，时刻需要你们恰当的判断联合成国家对你们共同的和个体的幸福的巨大意义。你们应当对这种联合怀着热忱的，习惯的和坚定的情感，让自己习惯于将它作为你们政治安全和繁荣的保障来思考和说话，小心翼翼的守护它，反对由于任何事件而建议抛弃它，甚至怀疑也要反对，对于试图在我们国家将一部分从其余部分分离出去，或者消弱现在将各部分联系在一起的神圣纽带，都要反对。良好的人性，恰当的理性，和对上帝的信仰。规则的美在于简单，个性的美在于丰富，语言的美在于逻辑。

In an instantaneous spatiotemporal shift we have been hit by drastic and rapid social change – collectivist material desires and aspirations, the collapse of traditional roots, the universal spiritual loss of contemporary man, and the jumbling of the global market, post-socialist politics and economic transformation have brought massive shock and transformation to each and every Chinese person, presenting the arresting spectacle of festering ruins alongside flourishing construction sites.

China contemporary art eventually returns to a real "Individual Era", during those flourishing years, some independent artist who keeps individual style was corned to the other side of market. No one really cares the inners feelings and personal experiences from the bottom of artist's heart; and everyone was pursuing and chasing the "china contemporary art" which can be obviously recognized at sight; while finally, there is little real collection to be kept in euro-American state galleries during those 30 years.
