C. gigantea is a high biomass, fast growing perennial shrub growing as a weed in the Hainan province of China. It was used as a traditional folk medicine for the treatment of cough, leprosy, and asthma by the people of Li nationality, who are autochthon of Hainan island of China. In our screening for bioactive agents from tropical medicinal plants, the ethanol extract of the roots of C. gigantea showed cytotoxic activity towards human chronic myelogenous leukemia (K562) and human gastric cancer (SGC-7901) cell lines in vitro by MTT method with IC50 values of 9.7 μg/mL and 6.7 μg/mL, respectively.

为了开发热带药用植物资源，从中寻找具有药用价值的生物活性成分，本文采用MTT法对牛角瓜乙醇提取物进行体外活性筛选，结果表明其对K562 及SGC-7901 具有细胞毒活性，IC50值分别为9.7 μg/mL 和 6.7 μg/mL。
