He was inspired to write the poem after reading two articles by English artist and writer Benjamin Haydon.

他在阅读了英国艺术家和作家本杰明海顿的两篇文章后获得灵感创作了该诗，诗歌主要表述了两个情景：一个是一位痴心不绝的追求者追求心爱的人却不能获得，另一个是小镇居民倾城献祭。
