Several other poster presentations reinforced the message that once-weekly epoetin was effective, although none of these others had a comparator dose. Two posters presented results from meta-analyses of epoetin alfa clinical trials. One was carried out by Pere Gascon, MD, PhD, and colleagues, from the University of Barcelona, in Spain, and involved 4296 patients with mixed tumor types, while the other, reported by Mario Dicato, MD, from the Luxembourg Medical Center, involved 2019 patients with breast cancer. Both concluded that 40,000-IU epoetin alfa is effective and well tolerated; it ameliorates the impact of chemotherapy on hemoglobin and improves quality of life, thus representing "good anemia management," the researchers concluded.

Nutrition solution culture, ICP-AES, the differential centrifugation technique and sequential chemical extraction method, suppression subtractive hybridization , RAPD were used in this thesis to study the mechanisms of copper tolerance and accumulation by Commelina communis grown in copper mine deposit which was reported to be a Cu hyperaccumulator, compared with C. communis grown in normal soil. Several aspects were examined, including: difference of copper tolerance and accumulation between C. communis grown in copper mine deposit and that grown in normal soil; difference of growth and nutrient accumunation between C. communis grown in copper mine deposit and that grown in normal soil under copper treatment; physiological differences between between C. communis grown in copper mine deposit and that grown in normal soil under copper treatment; subcellular distribution and chemical forms of Cu in C. communis; identification of cDNA fragments differentially expressed in C. communis grown in copper mine deposit; genetic diversity and copper tolerance of C. communis, tolerance mechanisms to copper in C. communis are discussed.

The project was based on the influence to the asphalt mixture volumectric property by the different compaction method (Marshall Compaction, Roller Compaction, Gyratory Compaction, Vibratory Compaction), a great deal of the experiments has been done with the consideration of the pratical construction. A lot of studies were carried out, such as the study of asphalt mixture image inquiring technique--"Colour Method", the feasibility study of the application of the 2D digital image processing technique on the asphalt mixture and the utiliztion of this technique on the compacting properties analysis of asphalt mixtures. A good beginning and foundation was made for the application of the digital image processing method on the study of the 3D asphalt mixture voluemetric components constitute.

In order to study the intake air flow characteristics in four-valve diesel engines, in this dissertation hot-wire anemometer and PIV twodimension instantaneous measuring technique are used. Extensive experimental study on two intake valve exit flow fields and longitudinal section flow field in cylinder are performed for different type of diesel engines. Great researching progress have been made on the interaction between two intake ports, and the formation process of in-cylinder swirl and flow field structure of cross and longitudinal section for four valve diesel engines. These results are presented in China for the first time and without such kind of research work reported abroad as detailed and deepgoing as this dissertation. The author designs and makes a set of hot wire measuring velocity device to measure the velocity distribution around the intake valve annulus and the cross section flow field in cylinder.
