棕刚玉是以铝钒土、焦碳为主要原料，在电弧炉内经高温冶炼而成，主要化学成分为Al2O3TiO2还含有少量的SiO2和Fe2o3等，显微硬度Hv18000一22000，韧性比SiC高，用它制成的磨具，适于磨削抗张强度较高的金属，如各种通用钢材、各锻铸铁、硬青铜等。
