In DMSO, the polymerization of methyl methacrylate could be carried out efficiently. However the photopolymerization was inhibited in acetonitrile. It was ascribed to the complex formed between coumarin 1 and HTIB photolyzed to unreactive species after irradiation in acetonitrile.
