The journal dedicates to the studies in all aspects of the botany, mycology and phycology of the South Pacific, Australia, South America, southern Africa and Antarctica. Research areas include biosystematics and biogeography, ecology, physiology and biochemistry, genetics and reproductive biology, structure and development, ethnobotany, palaeobotany, bryology, lichenology and plant pathology etc.

Eckenwalder Lab, Department of Botany is primarily dedicated to research in woody plants including biosystematics, chemotaxonomy, numerical taxonomy and morphometrics, paleobotany, and cladistics, accommodation of hybridization in phylogenetic analysis, biogeography, systematics and reproductive biology of convolvulaceae.

In the present paper,the inheritance,morphological and anatomical char-acters,physiological and biochemical characteristics,the shoot and leaf growinghabit of the curly dwarf mutant "Zha′ai 76"from Malus baecata,and the re-productive charateristic of"Pingyi Tiancha"an apomictic type of Malus hupe-hensis,are systematically studied.

本文对山定子皱叶矮生型突变系&扎矮76&的遗传、形态、解剖、生理生化、枝叶生长等特性和苹果属无融合生殖类型平邑甜茶的生殖特性进行了系统研究，并探索了通过两种资源的杂交选育种子繁殖的苹果矮化砧品种的可能性，获得以下结果

On the basis of the results obtained in the present study, the opinion on bamboo evolution were proposed:(1) Bamboos are monophyletic group,(2) Unicaespitose bamboo are not the original bamboo group,(3) Bamboos of genus Arundinaria are multiphyletic group, and (4) Bamboos of genus Phyllostachys are multiphyletic group.

同时对竹类植物分类系统提出新的看法：(1)在目前生殖体特征仍不完全的情况下，以地下茎为基础建立竹子分类系统或对现有分类系统进行修订是合理的，需要对地下茎进行更为详尽的研究并辅以地上秆的高度等方面的信息；(2)青篱竹属复合群中的现有划分方法可依据分子进化研究的结果作适当调整，如可依据MOC1分析的结果划分为低矮灌木、较高灌木和乔木3种类型。

Reduction of ovule number as a tendency of speciation in the genus is substantiated by the occurrence of tri_ovulate cones coupled with comprehensive characters of the genus. The metamorphic patterns as well as the leaf nature of the outer envelope indicate that female cones of Ephedra are compound while the female reproductive units of the ovulate cone have been reduced from secondary reproductive shoots similar to those of cordaites by phylogenetic transformation, fusion and reduction. Each fertile bract together with its axillary female reproductive unit composed the Bract Scale and Seed Scale Complex of Ephedra .

基于返祖性畸形三胚珠球花的出现及其他形态特征，认为麻黄属胚珠数目减少是该属内物种特化的一个趋势；利用雌球花发育的畸形现象及外珠被的形态学本质提出麻黄属的雌球果为复轴性构造，雌性生殖单位是由类似于科达类的次级生殖枝构造经系统发育变态、融合、简化成现存的生胚珠构造式样，每一可育苞片及其腋内雌性生殖单位共同组成了麻黄属的苞鳞_种鳞复合体。

Each male ratwas paired with 2 female rats in proestrus when administration terminated. Femalerats were examined the next morning for the presence of sperm in vaginal smears andunderwent a cesarean section on day 13 of gestation. Then the reproductive indiceswere calculated as follows: copulation index, pregnancy index, and fertility index,which can evaluate male fertility directly. The sperm motility and morphology wereevaluated by computer-assisted sperm analysis, moreover, the caudaepididymal sperm ultramicrostructure were analyzed by transmission electronmicroscope, which can evaluate the influence on sperm maturation bydutasteride ; sperm survival rate was assessed by SYBR-14 and propidium iodidefluorescent staining; serumal dihydrotestosterone and testosterone of ratswere detected by enzyme-labeled immunoassay, which can evaluate the effecton androgenic levels; the weights of testes and epididymides, were determined byprecise electronic balance; histological examination of above tissues were evaluatedby HE staining and TEM, which can evaluate treatment on histology of reproductiveorgans by dutasteride.
