Female flowers at base of inflorescences, larger than male ones, each bract-axil with only 1 female flower; pedicel short but distinct; calyx, rarely 2-sepaled, slightly fused at base; petals and disk absent; ovary 2-celled; ovules 1 per cell, smooth; styles short; stigmas 2, revolute, entire, eglandular.

雌花在花序的基部，比雄花大，每苞片腋只具1雌花；花梗短但是明显；花萼，很少2萼片，稍在基部愈合；花瓣和花盘无；子房2室；胚珠1 每室，平滑；花柱短柱头2，外卷，全缘，无腺体。

Morphology of sexual reproduction abortion in'High Noon', a distant hybridization cultivar of tree peonies(P.delavayi var. lutea×P. suffruticasa), was systematically investigated with light microscopy and cross. The results indicated that:(1)The stamens matured earlier than the gynoecia and pollens dispersed at the early stage of anthesis but the rate of normal 2-celled pollens were merely 2.41%.

采用光镜和杂交等方法对牡丹远缘杂交一代品种'正午'有性生殖败育进行系统形态学观察发现：(1)雄蕊较雌蕊先成熟，初花期即散粉，正常2-细胞花粉仅占2·41%，且花粉在多种培养液中、在自身和其它两种柱头上均不萌发；柱头在谢花期大量分泌粘液，进入最佳授粉状态；(2)同一胚珠中多个大孢子母细胞减数分裂高度不同步，胚囊发育与受精延迟，部分胚乳游离核在细胞化时期分裂异常；(3)自花及品种内异花授粉不结实，天然授粉结实率为0·053‰~0·130‰。

Female flowers: pedicel articulated at middle; sepals imbricate, flat, free; petals and disk absent; staminodes sometimes present, soon lost; ovary 3(or 4)-locular; ovules 2 per locule; styles 3 or 4, long, stout, entire, erect or recurved.

雌花 在中间的花梗有节；萼片覆瓦状，平，免费；花瓣和花盘无；退化雄蕊有时宿存，不久掉落；子房3(或4)室；每室胚珠2；花柱3或4的，长，粗，全缘，直立或下弯。

Female flowers: perianth tube adnate to ovary, mouth contracted, apex 3- or 4-toothed; staminodes absent; stigma sessile, discoid or peltate, long ciliate hairs along margin; ovule orthotropous.

雌花： 花被筒贴生于子房，口部收缩，顶3或4齿状；退化雄蕊无。柱头无柄，盘状的或者盾形，具长缘毛毛沿边缘；胚珠直生的。

比男性，每苞片1，有花梗大的雌花；花萼杯状，3 分裂；子房3室，平滑；每室1胚珠；通常的花柱3，离生；柱头外卷，全缘，无腺体。

Leaves entire or repand; plants sparsely glandular on sepals subapically and pedicels, very rarely throughout; fruiting pedicels (4-)6-12(-15) mm; ovules 40-50 per ovary

Ovary 3-loculed; ovules numerous per locule. Style filiform; stigma subentire or minutely 3-lobed.
