Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa was a Bengali mystic and Hindu revivalist. He was born Gadadhar Chattopadhyay in Bengal in 1836 and, at age 6, began experiencing mystical trances that would continue throughout his life. He became a Hindu priest at age 20 and spent decades studying different spiritual disciplines under various teachers.
