Novel chitosan derivative with long alky groups as the hydrophobic moieties and carboxymethyl groups as the hydrophilic moieties was synthesized. The chemical structure of N-octyl-O, N-carboxymethyl chitosan was characterized via FTIR, 1H NMR and elemental analysis.
