The compounds of series D can't exhibit any mesophases, but the compounds of series A and B possess a polar antiferroelectric smectic phase. The temperature range of B2 phase is the widest for the compound AC5 among them, up to 104.6℃.

On the other hand, we study the vertical alignment for a ferroelectric liquid crystal that has fast response, high contrast, and analog gray scale capability.
