We start today's show on the topic of education. Tzu Chi volunteers in Coquitlam, Canada recently held a scholarship ceremony for students from low income families. Thanks to Tzu Chi's bursaries, disadvantaged children are able to keep up with their school classes, and learn new skills like piano, dance and karate.

今天新闻一开始先谈谈教育，加拿大高贵林的慈济志工针对贫弱家庭的孩子提供助学金，因为慈济的捐助，清贫的学童不但能正常上学之外，还能学习才艺，像是钢琴、舞蹈、以及跆拳道等。

When St Francis had received this revelation, he forthwith shut himself up in his cell, and, in great recollection of soul, prepared himself for the mystery which was to be revealed to him; and from that time forth he began to taste more frequently the sweetness of divine contemplation, by which he was sometimes so absorbed in God, that he was seen by his companions to be raised corporally above the ground, and rapt in prayer; and in these raptures were revealed to St Francis not only things present and future, but even the secret thoughts and desires of the brethren, as was experienced by Brother Leo, his companion in those days.

Base on comparison with the remote sensing data in 1982 and 2000 and field investigation, the results of land cover and land use change were obtained by the method of landscape analysis. Ten types of land use were identified: riparian woods, riparian shrubbery, desert shrubbery, desert grassland, river-way and water area, salinised land, town, Gobi, shift sand dune, denudative upland. The results show that,(1) there were obvious changes in land cover structure.

根据黑河下游额济纳绿洲土地生态分类，利用1982年与2000年2期TM遥感数据对比和野外实地调查，采用景观生态空间分布格局分析方法，分为河岸乔木林、河岸灌草林、荒漠稀疏灌丛、荒漠稀疏草地、河道与水域、盐碱化土地、城镇、戈壁、流动沙丘和剥蚀地山丘陵，从各类土地分布面积变化和类型转移趋向与幅度两个方面，分析了额济纳绿洲20年来土地覆被变化。

In Kaw Mhu volunteers discovered the hospital is ill equipped to deal with anything but general injuries and illnesses. A local brick-built school, not reinforced with steel, was completely destroyed. Most schools in the area are constructed the same way. Everything the volunteers saw was noted for reference in the follow-up rebuilding work.

而在考慕镇，慈济志工发现当地的医院设备相当简陋，只能接受一般内外科疾病的病人，而当地一所红砖建筑的学校全倒，没有钢筋，完全被摧毁，而这里大部分学校都是这样的建筑，慈济志工将这里所见到的一切都一一记录下来，以利后续的重建计画。

Marikina City residents have also created a large 'thank you' banner, covered with over 700 signatures. Tzu Chi volunteer Cai Qingshan says the victims asked him to take the poster back to Taiwan to thank Tzu Chi.

马利仅那市民众制作了大型的感谢状和700多位居民的签名，慈济志工蔡青山说，灾民还请志工带感恩卡到台湾，要感谢慈济。

On their latest visit to the slum area, Tzu Chi volunteers from Marikina City told residents all about the tragedies in Haiti and Chile; the people, who are also in need themselves, contributed to the cause without second thoughts.

在菲律宾加维特省罗萨里奥市，梦乡村的贫困居民也捐钱给海地表达他们的爱心，2007年八月开始，慈济人每个月定期前往这个地区发放，最近，马利仅那市的慈济志工来到这里，也特别带来海地和智利强震的消息，虽然许多村民生活贫困，但是他们毫不思索的捐出他们的爱心。

One ingenious idea that helped the recovery effort in places like Marikina City was the "relief work program", in which survivors were paid to help clean up their own homes.

菲律宾马尼拉水患发生当时，慈济志工立即前往援助，在马利仅那市所进行的&以工代赈&的灾区复原计画，让受灾民众能领取工资，又能进行家园打扫，本周，来自马利仅那市的参访团，要来向慈济说感恩。
