Confocal analysis also revealed that these two proteins colocalize in subnuclear granules and peri-nuclear region. Transfection experiments using a p53-responsive reporter plasmid in HuH-7, Hep3B, HepG2 and H1299 demostrated that full-length HCV core protein could elicit a positive or negative effect on the p53-mediated transcriptional activation depending on the concentration of the HCV core protein.
