Bai Yue came up with the term of black-shell jade for the first time, in China Collection, January 2001, issue 37. Black-shell jade is heavy compared with its size, and is covered with blackish shell that has a look of iron cast. Under the shell it mainly consists of tremolite, which is rich in Liaohe River basin.
