On a summer morning at Da Sheng Zhu Lin Temple, having taken my deep breath, I sat in my sunny doorway from sunrise till noon, rapt in a revery, amidst the pines and hickories, in undisturbed solitude and stillness, while the birds singing around or flitted noiseless through the house and the Buddhist chanting echoing in the valley, until by the sun falling in at my window, or the noise of some traveller's wagon on the distant highway, I was reminded of the lapse of the time.

思绪重回五台山，大圣竹林寺夏日的清晨，我坐在阳光明媚的山门前，深呼吸，从日出坐到正午时分，此时此刻，万籁俱静，只有我独坐在那松树和山核桃的林中，梵呗偶吟，凝思冥想，鸟儿在附近时而啁啾，或悄无声息地掠过我的屋前，直至夕阳的余晖照在我的窗前，或是从非常遥远的公路上传来飘渺的游人车马声，我这才想起时光已匆匆流逝。
