The Council supervises the work of subject matter standing committees including: bacteriology; biochemistry, physiology, and molecular biology; biological control; chemical control; diagnosticians; diseases of ornamental plants and turf grasses, environmental quality and plant health; epidemiology; exobiology and space phytopathology; forest pathology; genetics; integrated pest management; mycology; mycorrhizae; nematology; plant disease detection; plant disease losses; postharvest pathology and mycotoxicology; seed pathology; soil microbiology and root diseases; tropical plant pathology and virology.

该协会主要研究范围涉及细菌学、生物化学、生理学、分子生物学、生物控制学；化学控制学；诊断学；观赏植物和草皮病理、环境质量与植物健康；流行病学；外空生物学和空间植物病理学；森林病理学；遗传学；病虫害综合管理；真菌学；线虫学；植物疾病诊断；植物病害损失；收割期后的植物病理学和真菌毒理学；种子病理学；土壤微生物学和植物根病理；热带植物病理学与滤过性微生物学等。

The contents are mainly divided into three parts: The first part describes mechanism and metabolism rule of natural products and its classification ; The second part is about the growth and development of plants and their mutual relationship, natural biological active substances which are produced in the course of defending plant diseases and insect damages. The third part is not only the function and principle of medicine, anticancer and antioxygen activity of different kinds of natural products such as resin ,essential oil, high molecule, grease and so on but also their application. The fourth is security problem of Plant Natural Products. Through the lessons, we can correctly understand and use the relationship between plants and environment.

其课程分为13章，内容主要分为4大部分，一是阐述植物天然产物的发生机理和代谢规律，介绍相关主要植物种类，并对天然产物进行化学分类；二是讲述植物天然产物和自身生长发育之间的关系、天然产物如何影响植物之间的相互关系、以及植物如何利用天然生物活性物质抵御病虫害的威胁；三是详细描述了各种天然产物，如植物自身生长发育过程中所产生的活性物质、植物与其它生物之间的相互关系中所产生的生物活性物质、植物毒性物质、植物药理活性物质、植物抗生物质、植物树脂、植物精油、植物高分子、植物油脂、植物抗氧化活性成分等，并阐述它们的药理活性、抗癌性、抗氧化性等对人类健康起作用的的功能和原理；四是提出了植物天然产物的安全性问题，并介绍相关案例和介绍相关法规；在此基础上还专门讲述了树脂、精油、高分子、以及油脂类等天然产物的应用。

In the light of looking up -finishing-inquiring into the literature,The subject ntegratedly applied the knowledge of botany and phytotomy and Authentication of Chinese Medicines and the experimental technology to study taxonomy and anatomy of Cornus chinense Wanger and its kindred plant.To combine the knowledge of natural medicinal chemistry instrumental analysis,pharmaceutical analysis and experimental technique,Glycosides chemical components of Cornus chinense Wanger and its kindred plant were qualitatively analysised by using TLC.

以文献查阅-整理-调查为基础，综合运用植物学、植物解剖学、中药鉴定学知识与实验技术对川鄂山茱萸及其近缘植物进行分类学处理与解剖学研究，结合天然药物化学、仪器分析、药物分析等学科的知识与实验技术，用TLC定性分析川鄂山茱萸及其近缘植物的苷类化学组分；用HPLC测定川鄂山茱萸不同器官、细胞组织、果实不同采集期的熊果酸、马钱苷的含量并进行色谱条件优化。

Berleth Lab, Department of Botany is primarily dedicated to teaching and research in botany including plant physiology, plant biochemistry, plant anatomy and development, plant pathology, molecular genetics of plant hormone signal transduction, vascular plant systematics, plant evolutionary biology, microbial ecology, plant evolutionary ecology and physiology.

植物学系主要致力于植物生理学，植物生物化学，植物解剖学和发育，植物病理学，植物激素信号转导的分子遗传学，维管植物分类学，植物进化生物学，微生物生态学，植物进化生态学和生理学等。

The results of this experiment were different from previous study which suggests that the study on plant chemical defense in large geography scale is difficult and the results may be affected by the background of seedlings and experimental animals and the measured features. So that, more experiments should be carried on in the future.
