而有的病经西医药治疗，病虽得到治愈，但患者丧失工作和生活能力，或转化为他病或恶性病，或留下终身残疾等副作用；有的只起短期疗效而潜伏有严重危害性，例如，若用皮质激素类化学药物治风湿病，止痛、消炎速效，但停药病易复发，久服易致人体胖肿、骨质疏松而使人失去工作能力、自理生活能力，终形成瘫痪且无法消除风湿病痛。
