The journal covers all aspects of the biology and control of insects and other arthropods of medical and veterinary importance, mainly including transmission dynamics, parasitology and immunology, behaviour, biosystematics, ecology and environmental, physical, chemical and biological control methods etc.

The fulfill of the project would enhance the research level of sawfly larvae in China. It is very important in the research of insect systematics and is also of high importance in the conservation of Chinese biodiversity, as well as in the theory and practice of control of forest and flower pests.

不仅有助于提高我国昆虫幼虫学研究水平，在昆虫系统学研究方面具有重要意义，而且在中国生物多样性保护、林木花卉害虫控制的理论和实践上也具有重要意义。

Using the principle and methods of Cladistics to systematically study the comparative and evolutionary morphology of sawfly larvae of Hymenoptera; to reconstruct the phylogeny of sawflies and to probe on the co- evolution between sawflies and their host plants; further more to collect enemies of some important sawfly pests.

应用支序系统学原理和方法，系统深入地研究膜翅目叶蜂类幼期比较和进化形态学，推断和重建叶蜂系统演化关系，探讨叶蜂类昆虫与寄主植物之间协同进化关系，初步筛选重要叶蜂害虫的天敌昆虫。

Currently, it focuses on the taxonomic study, molecular systematics, zoogeography and Evolutionary biology of Hemiptera, Diptera, and Lepidoptera based on the morphology and by using molecular systematic and biogeography methods.

目前本所主要集中于应用形态学、分子系统学、生物地理学等方法进行半翅目、双翅目及鳞翅目昆虫的分类学、分子系统发育、动物地理学和进化生物学的研究，同时还进行昆虫生理生化、昆虫病理学、害虫防治等方面的研究。

Subordinated to it are Labs of Hemiptera, Diptera, Lepidoptera, Insect Molecular Systematics, Insect Physiology, Insect Pathology and Pest Control.
