作为近代汉语研究语料，敦煌、吐鲁番社会经济文献的价值在于：一、同时代性。文献大多数有确切的写作时间，为难得的&同时资料&。二、真实性。文献或封存于洞窟或者埋藏于地下一千多年，或更久远，能准确无误地反映当时语言的真实面貌。三、丰富性。文献来自各个阶层，文字数量在……百万字以上，能够从一个侧面反映当时的词汇面貌。四、口语性强。与敦煌变文一样，社会经济文献口语性也很突出。
