首先藉由modified Boyden chamber invasion assay，发现有26种中药具有抑制A549侵入的能力，其中有骨碎补、叶下珠、夏枯草、卷柏、紫花地丁、榄仁树的叶等6种中药不具有细胞毒性，而当癌细胞转移时常常会伴随著细胞外基质的分解及细胞移动能力的改变，在gelatin zymography与casein zymography assay中也发现到它们可以抑制A549人类肺癌细胞的MMP-2及u-PA的表现。
