Hexagonal bolts are usually formed with cold heading. The process is classified as open-die forging and therefore its die design is less complicated. The mushroom-like head has to be sheared into hexagonal shape and the amount of the scrap is somehow significant especially for heading with short bolts or high alloy material. There is an increasing demand in increasing the gross profit by increasing the yield of workpiece material.

In this paper, the basic theory and work principle of cellular automata were introduced concisely. The influence of strain-rate and temperature on the number of nucleation and the mean size of R-grain, as well as the influence of cooling on ultimate microstructure of blade after forging finished off were considered. The simulated results agree well with growth kinetics of dynamic recrystallization of classical theory and physical experiment.

Based on the relations among the stress, final wall-thickness of thin-walled tube and the characteristics of tube material, original size, curling radius along with friction condition in a axially-compressed internal inversion process on right-angled fillet die, some analytical discriminants were established for judging if a double-layered tubular piece of aluminum alloy could be steadily formed from a certain-sized round tube via internal inversion process without interference and plastic instability of tube wall, and a method was put forward for determining the maximum and minimum usable curling radius or die fillet-radius for thin-walled tubes in the process.
