罪犯的心理矫治为监狱劳教所在教育改造和教育挽救工作中，运用心理学的原理和方法，直接引人犯罪心理学的研究成果，通过对罪犯劳教人员开展心理测验、心理评估，掌握罪犯劳教人员个体心理结构特征，进行心理健康教育、心理咨询和心理治疗，帮助罪犯劳教人员消除不良心理及其他心理障碍、心理疾病，促使其心理结构向良性方向转化。在一些发达国家中，罪犯矫治工作是通过各种矫治计划事实的，制定和落实矫治计划的活动，体现了监狱工作的理念和主要内容，呈现出教育化倾向、社区化倾向、个别化倾向和技术化倾向，而中国的心理矫治工作系统性和实践性与西方国家的理论和实践对比起来，都明显不足。
