The paper is divided into three parts: firstly,the thesis analyzes the actuality of urbanization and the mode of municipalitycomprehensively, pointing out the clue relations between them. Secondly, the thesismakes comparative study of advantages and disadvantages of three modes ofmunicipality and points out these patterns are reflection of different stages in the courseof urbanization. Thirdly, the thesis introduces the foreign advanced experiences andbring the answer to perfect the currently mode of municipality depend on the directionof urbanization. At last the thesis takes the first step to discuss the new modes ofmunicipality.

文章从三部分入手进行分析，首先全面分析了农村城市化的进程和市镇建制的现状，揭示两者之间的必然联系，然后对当前三种设市模式的利弊进行了对比研究，指出这些设市模式是农村城市化在不同发展阶段的具体反映，接下来借鉴国外设市模式的经验，针对今后农村城市化的趋势提出了如何完善现有设市模式，并对新的设市模式进行了初步探讨。
