The common chemical constituents were juniper camphor,1,3,3-trimethylcyclohex-1-ene-4-carboxaldehyde,borneol,α-curcumene,α-bisabolol,cis-caryophyllene,benzyl benzoate,methyl β,β-dimethylbenzenepropanoic acid ester,2,4-decadienal and heneicosane in the essential oil of the five cultivars' Hangjuhua.Among them,juniper camphor is most which were composed of 11.96%,10.51%,10.95%,13.28% and 10.77% of the total essential oil,and methyl β,β-dimethylbenzenepropanoic acid ester is second,which were composed of 1.51%,1.86%,2.52%,4.89% and 2.51% of the total essential oil,respectively.

The major volatiles of Sansa were E-3-Hexen-1-ol (14.74%), Formic acid and hexyl ester (9.52%) and they were all more than that in other varieties relatively. The major volatiles of Red Chief Delicious were 4-methyl-1, 3-pentadiene (16.37%) and Z-3-Hexen-1-ol, acetate (10.27%) and were also more than that in other varieties.

珊夏枝条挥发物主要成分（E-3-己烯－1-醇、甲酸己酯）的相对含量(14.74%，9.52%)均多于其他品种；首红枝条挥发物主要成分（4-甲基－1，3-戊二烯、乙酸叶醇酯）的相对含量(16.37%，10.27%)均多于其他品种。

Chromatography peaks were obtained by GC-MS and 56 compounds were identified. The main components were linalyl butyrate (30.212%),(1α, 3α, 4β, 6α)-4,7,7-trimethyl-bicycloheptan-3-ol (10.940%),-4-carene (1.826%), 4-methylene-1-(1-methylethyl)-bicyclo [3.1.0] hexane (1.109%),β-myrcene (1.170%), limonene (5.784%), 3, 7-dimethyl-1, 6-octadien-3-ol (5.742%), n-hexadecanoic acid (0.914%) and-9, 12-octadecadienoic acid (2.952%), etc.

Firstly, 3-ethylthiobutanal was prepared from crotonaldehyde reacting with ethanehiol in triethylamine with high yield. Secondly, methyl acetoacetate was converted to 6-ethylthiohept-3-en-2-one by three steps via hydrolysis, condensation with 3-ethyltio-butanal and dehydration, then 6-ethylthiohept-3-en-2-one was cycloco ndensed with dimethyl malonate by Michael addition and Claisen condensation, followed by saponification and decarboxylation to give the intermediate of 5-(2-ethylthiopropyl)-cyclohexane-1,3-dione.

A series of 3 - aryl - 3 -( 5,5 - dimethyl - 3 - hydroxy - 2 - cyclohexene - 1 - one - 2 - yl) propanoic ester s were synthesized by reaction between aromatic aldehydes ,5,5- dimethyl -1,3-cyclohexanedione and isopropylidene malonate catalyzed by KF - Al2O3 in alcohols.
