An earthquake of MS6.1 occurred 67 km north to Alertai in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region（N 48°24＇,E 88°14′）on Mar. 13, 1996. The meizoseismal area was located in the Alertai Mountain range near the border between China and Mongolia. The major axis of isoseismal lines in the meizoseismal area was in NW direction.
