Shen Jiaben, a famous legist of modem Chinese, made a deep conclusion and criticism on Chinese legal system of feudalism, and made a fully review and a selective absorption from the ideas and principles of the western capitalism law. Then he combined the two aspects together and applied them to the activities of modification of the legal system. He made initial and fruity efforts to the modem Chinese law.

沈家本是中国近代著名法学家，他一方面对中国封建法制作出了具有一定深度的批判总结，另一方面对西方资产阶级法律思想和法律原则进行了全盘考察和有选择的吸收，并将二者结合起来，渗透到具体的修律活动中去，为中国法律近代化作出了最初的、卓有成效的努力。
