Considering the state of open-phase and asynchronous operation in largepower unit, the magnetomotive force and harmonic current of stator and rotor aretheoretically analyzed. A fault simulation test is designed, which proves the theoreticalconclusion correct. Based on the developed iron loss of surface-mounted permanent magnet machine of Slemon and Xian Liu, the expressions of the peak and the time rate change of flux density in the teeth and the yoke are derived, considering the beveling edges of the PM. According to the basic concept of the eddy current loss, the analytic calculations of the average eddy current loss density in the teeth and the yoke are presented respectively. Hence, a calculation method for the iron losses of PM with beveling edges is presented.
