Pavilion of Women is the first Hollywood film made in China by a Chinese cast,and it is another film after The Good Earth and Dragon Seed that is adapted from Pearl Buck's novel.

Pearl S. Buck won the Nobel Prize in literature for the Gold Earth and other books that depicted the Chinese subject matter, which was a cultural phenomenon deserving further study.
