Multiplex-PCR detection method for Pasteurella multocida and Haemophilus parasuis had been developed based on published single PCR for these pathogens. The PCR reagents, annealing temperature and the PCR procedure were optimized and the primers were screened, the PCR products including 457bp of PM and 1090bp of HPS were obtained just by one test.

Methods Acanthamoeba polyphaga and Legionella pneumophila were co-cultured under laboratory condition. At consecutive time points during the culture, smears of the cultured products were made on glass slides for staining purposes. Different types of stainings including Gram′s staining, Gimenez staining, Giemsa staining and immunofluorescence were used to determine the best method for the identification of amoebal pathogens.

In order to evaluate prevalence of Chlamydia psittaci in Beijing and other provinces around, 374 blood samples and 81 clinical suspected samples from Beijing, Hebei, Tianjin, Nei Monggol, Shandong, Shanxi and Henan were investigated by detecting for antibodies against C.psittaci using IHA and ELISA, and for pathogens using modified Ziehl-Neelsen staining and immunofluorescence tests.

An amount of psychrophilic bacteria was isolated from deep sea sediment collected from Prydz Bay, Antarctica. The strain AC167, which showed high cold-active chitinase activity, was screened from these bacteria. It was identified as a Pseudomonas species by 16S rDNA sequence comparison.

We have determined the 3D solution structure of human translationally controlled tumor protein TCTP and the Ca2+-binding site; determined the 3D crystal structure of human mitoNEET, a novel protein from distinct groups of iron-sulfur proteins; determined the 3D solution structure of a novel chromatin protein Cren7. Determination of SNase-DNA and Archaea protein-DNA complex structures are in progress.
