It was believed that either alumina reacted with impurities in the iron powder or the surface diffusion caved the alumina particles to stick to the iron powder surfaces. Another approach was to use the air classifier mill to break up the sintered iron cakes into powders. The morphology of such particles was classified into 4 types in this study: irregular, equalaxed, near spherical, and flaky. The morphological differences were affected by the extent of sintering. The higher the extent of sintering, the stronger the inter-particle bonding.

The XRD peak of Ca2 of paste without activator is high at early age, and the peak of mullite and quartz has less change along with age. When NaOH is added, the peak of quartz of fly ash has clear drop. The surfaces of fly ash activated has eroded trace at 7 d.
