In a probabilistic analysis of unrepairable systems, system behavior is described by reliability and mean time to failure, in which the reliability is defined by the probability of the random event "system is functioning at time t", and MTTF the expected value of random lifetime of system.

衡量不可修系统可靠性的指标主要是系统可靠度和平均寿命。其中系统可靠度定义为不可修系统在t时刻仍正常工作的概率，平均寿命定义为不可修系统寿命的期望值。
