Although the TSOT heat exchanger has been successfully applied in the realm of heat-recovery in industrial boilers and furnaces, the mechanisms of TSOT and its effects of some elements on its heat transfer features are unknown. Reports about the TSOT research have seldom seen. So it is not only urgent but also important to do some investigations on TOST to enrich the heat pipe theory and guide engineering design.

Flow simulation and performance analysis are conducted for the stage of a high energy head unshrouded centrifugal compressor with vaneless and tandem diffuser respectively using CFD software. The flow field distribution and performance comparison are offered in the two conditions.

The numerical results show that:(1) the throughflow wake is considerably influenced by the tip clearance.
