The principle fields of the Institute's activity are related to molecular genetics, cytogenetics, immunogenetics, embryology, biochemistry, the physiology of animal stress and ethology, embryo biotechnology and biotechnics, introductions of the results of basic investigations into animal improvement programmes, determination of animal genotypes and their adaptation to environmental conditions and production demands.

该所的主要活动领域是关于分子遗传学、细胞遗传学、免疫遗传学、胚胎学、生物化学、动物胁迫和动物行为方面的生理学、胚胎生物技术和应用生物学、改善动物的项目基础研究结果的介绍、动物基因型的决定及其对环境条件的适应与产品要求等方面的内容。

Biological Activated Carbon Filter could provide ideal habitats for invertebrates, but invertebrates may lead to aesthetic problems and adverse health effects of drinking water. This paper studied the invertebrates in biological activated carbon filters in a water plant of the south of China during Sep. 2006 to Sep. 2007. The results implied that BAC filters were colonized by invertebrates, in which 23 species of invertebrates were found, the dominating organism group was the rotifer, and others included Copepoda, Cladocera, Oligochaeta, Nauplii and Nematoda.

生物活性炭(Biological activated carbon， BAC)滤池能够为无脊椎动物提供理想的生境，但无脊椎动物可能给饮用水带来负面的健康效果和感观问题。2006年9月～2007年9月，对南方某水厂BAC滤池无脊椎动物滋生状况进行了为期13个月的调查研究，共发现无脊椎动物23种，优势类群为轮虫，其他类群还有桡足类、枝角类、寡毛类、无节幼体、线虫等。

Meanwhile, the great progress of molecular scatology has also been made day by day and results inferred from it are widely accepted in the world. Therefore, it is of great potentiality to apply this method in the behavioral ecology and conservation biology of endangered species, and it will also be used in conservation genetics more and more in the future.

WASHINGTON - Scientists unearthed a skull of the most primitive four-legged creature in Earth's history, which should help them better understand the evolution of fish to advanced animals that walk on land. The 365 million-year-old fossil skull, shoulders and part of the pelvis of the water-dweller, Ventastega curonica, were found in Latvia, researchers report in a study published in Thursday's issue of the journal Nature. Even though Ventastega is likely an evolutionary dead-end, the finding sheds new details on the evolutionary transition from fish to tetrapods. Tetrapods are animals with four limbs and include such descendants as amphibians, birds and mammals.
