Dendrology is a difficult course for its abundantly abstract and trivial contents. The key to a better teaching result for the course is that teachers should not only master relative concepts, terms and feathers of trees, but also pass them to students by appreciate methods while increasing students' interests to the course. A challenge is that there are numerous terms about trees and most of them are difficult and unfamiliar words to most people.

树木学是一门内容较深奥抽象又纷繁琐碎的学科，老师对概念、术语和树木特征的准确把握并把其恰当传授给学生、激发其对课程的学习兴趣是教好树木学的关键；而有关树木和植物分类学的术语对大多数人而言又是很偏僻、难以掌握的词汇，且其数量巨大。

In addition, the edges, veins, skeleton and fissility of plant leaf are also primary features for plant morphology. So we also studied the method of the automatic extraction of these structural features from leaf images, which is a necessary step to design an automatic plant species system.
