Based on the relation between modal amplitude and phase in the mode conversion of the few mode fiber, a novel configuration of an asymmetric biconical fiber and a fiber mode converter is presented to realize the nonreciprocal propagation in optical fibers. Preliminary feasibility is demonstrated both theoretically and experimentally.

Based on deep understanding on the relation between the properties of biconical fibers and the fusion temperature, a problem of fusion temperature monitoring is solved by means of a ceramic microheater and a fiber pyrometer. Effects of the fusion temperature on optical properties of biconical fibers are studied quantitatively. Biconical fiber devices with various filtering spectra are fabricated. Experimental results agree well with theoretical predictions.

The effects of rheological technological parameters such asdrawing speed and fused temperature on the optical performance,microstructure and the process of rheological formation have beeninvestigated. It is discovered that the present heating mode of combustinggas can\'t satisfy with the rheological manufacturing technological needof high performance fiber devices. A new resistance heating system is putforward, designed and manufactured, and a new fused biconical tapermachine is developed.
