A selective and mild PS-DIB/ionic-liquid immobilized 2, 2, 6, 6-tetramethyl-piperidin-4-ol-N-oxyl catalytic oxidation procedure of alcohols to the corresponding aldehydes and ketones in ionic liquid BF4 at room temperature was developed. The oxidant PS-DIB was prepared via the iodation and acetylation of polystyrene resin. For the preparation of the ionic-liquid immobilized TeMPO catalyst, 4-(2, 2, 6, 6-Tetramethyl-1-oxyl-4-piperidoxyl)butyl bromide was first synthesized from TeMPO and 1, 4-dibromobutane.

Two novel soluble poly, poly [(3-butyrylpyrrole-2, 5-diyl) p-nitrobenzylidene] and poly [(3-butyrylpyrrole-2, 5-diyl)(3-hydroxy-4-methoxy) benzylidene], were synthesized firstly by condensation of 3-butyrylpyrrole with p-nitrobenzaldehyde and vanillin, respectively.

Firstly, 3-ethylthiobutanal was prepared from crotonaldehyde reacting with ethanehiol in triethylamine with high yield. Secondly, methyl acetoacetate was converted to 6-ethylthiohept-3-en-2-one by three steps via hydrolysis, condensation with 3-ethyltio-butanal and dehydration, then 6-ethylthiohept-3-en-2-one was cycloco ndensed with dimethyl malonate by Michael addition and Claisen condensation, followed by saponification and decarboxylation to give the intermediate of 5-(2-ethylthiopropyl)-cyclohexane-1,3-dione.

Attempts in part I of the dissertation were to develop microemulsion systems using medium chain triglyceride, Captex 300, deionized water (H2O), and TPGS as surfactant for the oral delivery of protein drugs or poorly water soluble drugs. Pseudo-ternary phase diagrams were constructed to elucidate the phase behavior of systems composed of medium-chain triglyceride and water with TPGS as main surfactant, polysorbates (Tween 20, Tween 40, Tween 60 and Tween 80) as adjuvant surfactants, and polyethylene glycols (PEG 400 and PEG 600) and polyols (ethanediol, 1,2-propanediol, 1,3-propanediol, 1,3-butanediol, 1,4-butanediol and glycerin) as cosurfactants.

Chiral 3 methy 1,4 butanediol and its derivatives are the important intermediate of synthesis of chiral smectic liquid crystal polyesters and chiral natrual products with biological activity. In the paper, a new efficient route of 3 methyl 1,4 butanediol and its two derivatives, 2 methyl 4 tetrapyranyloxy 1 butanol and 2 methyl 4 tetrapyranylbutanal, was described, and the target products were synthesized by employing asymmetric hydroboration oxidation improved.

Poly（p-vinylbenzyl succinimide） resin,which can be abbreviated to succinimide resin,was prepared by the reaction of chloromethylated polystyrene with succinimide in the presence of base. The succinimide resin was characterized by diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier transform spectrometry and elemental analysis.

In the second part, quantum chemical AM1 methods were employedto theoretically investigate the electronic structures of maleic anhydride in ground- and excited-states. On basis of the frontier orbital theoryand three bonding principles, the possibility of reaction of active α-hydroxysuccinic anhydride carbanion and active α-hydroxy-succinic anhydride radical on polymerization process of MArespectively by alkali catalyst and by hydroxyl radical was discussed. Theanionic and radical polymerization of MA discussed also. Theoreticalstudies show that both polymerization products of MA are in the chainstructures, corresponding to the experimental findings.
